Owl call question (1 Viewer)

Have been hearing an Owl calling recently, regularly see/hear Tawnys but the call I'm hearing doesn't sound like a Tawny to me.

it does sound like the description of Long Eared Owl I've found on some sites as...

"a quavering hoo hoo hoo hoo repeated every few seconds"

but having found some samples of the call online it sounds nothing like those :h?: those samples are of a much slower more booming call, the one I'm hearing is faster and softer.

any ideas?

Hiya Richard,

If you'd have left out the "quavering" & left in the "hoo hoo hoo hoo " i'd have said quite probably Leo.
"Quavering hoo....." i'd say Tawny.

Both species have a wide variety of calls though....

(Imho Leo's main call (males song) is a deep low "OO".)

Regards Steve.

Sounds like a Screech owl. Are you supposed to have them there?
