Hi everyone!
Today I was in my house and heard a bird call I never heard before. It sounded like it came from the woods in my backyard (Long Island, NY, USA.) When I heard it I grabed my bins and ran outside to investigate. Unfortunately, as soon as I got outside the call stopped. I checked around my property anyway, but couldn't find the bird.|| My wood is about 3 acres square and is a mixed forest, mostly maple, oak, and Virginia Pine.
The call itself was high pitched (about the pitch of a mourning doves song) and sounded like, "coo coo coo." The calls were short (each held for about half a second) and each 3 "coos" were evenly spaced apart by about 1 second. I listened to all different calls of Owls, Hawks, Groundbirds, and Cukoos, but none of them matched the call.
I know it's very hard to identify a bird call without really hearing it, but If any of you have any ideas of what it could be, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance! |=)|
