Some general comments because I'm interested, not because anything needs fixing: There were 652 Members at the site in the past 24 hrs. according to my Greeting Screen, yet we have only 155 votes after about a week, well short of double the 92 entries.
While it is disappointing that more of us don't love insect subjects, I suppose vastly more members are interested in birds but NOT insects. In that case I appreciate that BF.net and the prize sponsor are encouraging a very good minority-interest subject area, and increased general appreciation for this beautiful and diverse side of nature. By the time I had to post an entry or miss out, there were several wonderful contenders and I didn't feel I had a competitive shot, yet made the decision to try to add to the quality and vitality of this Month's competition and show my love and support for this subject matter, and to include some brief educational text with the photo as part of the "mission for insects." I believe that others did the same, and together we've made it an enjoyable photographic insect forum.
The above Member comments show how dear the world of insects is to our segment of the Membership, and so, thank you BF.net. Whether or not you thought of it this way, you are helping expose the world to the value in "The little things that run the world," according to Dr. E.O. Wilson.
