Hello again...
I found this rascal in the raspberry patch. What a strange looking bug! His wing "panels" look oddly small for flight. He just fell to the ground when I reached out to him. Help....what is it??? Thanks so much, Andrea |

Hi Andrea, your beetle doesn´t fly with the Elytrons (you call them "wing panels") but with the wings under it. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Maybug.jpg or http://www.earwigs-online.de/movies/movies_kaefer.html
Sadly I don´t know the species. Regards, Roman |

It's a bee beetle of some sort (tribe: Trichiini). It does look a lot like Trichiotinus assimilis.
