red-backed shrike intergrade? Salalah, Oman (1 Viewer)

BirdingRob

Brit abroad
Seen in the frankincense park north of Salalah.

Looks like some sort of red-backed shrike intergrade unless its some sort of moult. Red-backed x Daurian? Or even some sort of grey shrike. I am stumped

All ideas welcomed

Hmmmm...difficult one. It seems not to have a white notch in the wing or much of a white super, which might rule out the karelini form of Turkestan. It may be a Red-backed/Daurian hybrid, which was suggested for the bird in the link below, but your bird is different from that one too - no chestnut tones on the mantle. Also stumped....

Andy,

if you look very carefully I think you can see some slight chestnut on the mantle. What I have done is darkened the picture. Of course everything else now is too dark but I think chestnut hint to the grey mantle comes out. I am more confident it is a Daurian/red-backed hybrid now!
