Which warbler? Salalah, Oman (1 Viewer)

Seen in woods in the hills north of Salalah today.

I have two ideas: 1. garden warbler or 2. one of those bland first winter icterops common whitethroats.

Or it could be something else

all help welcomed as always

Rob

Seconded. Garden Warbler, although often described as featureless, has a faint supercilium and lacks the eye-ring of this bird. I remember being totally baffled by icterops Whitethroats when I first saw them - so different from nominate.

Hi Rob, have you ruled out Menetries?

Sorry for reviving an old thread. The subject bird just doesn't 'feel' like a Ménétries's, but such things are subjective, so here's something more solid. In the second image, the uppertail can be clearly seen. On Ménétries's, the uppertail is blackish and contrasts markedly with the paler upperparts. That of the subject bird is not. I concur with an 'eastern Common Whitethroat', though I concede my experience of these is limited to spring birds in central Asia.
