Im thinking its a Pale Thrush- my field guides are lacking (and in Japanese). As always, thanks...

What a lovely photo. If he had an eye-stripe, he might almost be a dead ringer for our wintering fieldfare.

I'm pretty sure it's a male Pale Thrush.

Yes, grey head and brown back. Look for the white tips to the outer tail feathers when they fly, too.
