A Long-tailed Skua? from Kuwait (1 Viewer)

alsirhan

It looks like a Long-tailed Skua, from Kuwait taken Yesterday July 1st. It would be a second record if it is confirmed Long-tailed Skua.

I am very sorry I did not upload a photograph. Thanks Howard for reminding me.

It's those well developed tail streamers that are throwing me. I've only experience of adult birds. But might i tentitively suggest this to be a 2ndCY Long-Tailed Skua?

I would call this bird long-tailed skua because of the long tail-streamers.

I also see white on only the outer two primaries wich is a detail that fits long-tailed skua. But i am familiar with the difficulties with sub-adult skuas although we rarely see sub-adults in N.Sweden (we mostly have breeding adult birds).

But i would say those long tail-streames cannot belong to any other skua species espcially since this is a sub-adult bird (and not on any adult bird of any other skua-species either).

I also get the slim impression from the wings that's typical long-tailed skua.

About the age i'm not sure if this is a well moulted 2cy bird (esp. well moulted tail) or a 3 cy bird.

I would guess a 2 cy but i know that 4 cy LTS can show barred underwing so IMO this could be a moult-retarded 3cy. But like i said before: not sure of the age.

Sorry for the confusion. After last post i thought of what i wrote.

I think the body is too far moulted for a 2cy bird and that this is a 3cy bird. That might explain the long tail streamers. What i also base my guess 3 cy on is that the rump (behind the legs) is not heavily barred. Heavy barring is something that's typical for 1cy (and i would guess also 2cy) LTS.

I'm still not 100% sure of the age but this is my thoughts.
