Hi Folks,
This is a large acrocephalus warbler - something in the 18-19cm range. It is most likely to be a Clamorous Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus stentoreus) - by far the commonest wintering large reed warbler in the area where it was shot. The image was taken a couple of days ago on the banks of a large oxbow lake 100 kms north of Kolkata city, India.
One of the things that prompted me to seek ID confirmation was the behaviour of the bird and the habitat. Most Clamorous that we find are skulkers and are partial to thick waterside cover. This bird was without a care in the world and was foraging in the open on the banks of the lake. The area did not look like stentoreus habitat at all!
I have other images which can be shared should there be indications that this may not be a stentoreus. BTW, no calls recorded.
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
sumit
