Day 2 of my GGBC bit, working tomorrow, so that's it done with now.

Solo effort today, walked from Cantley to Brundall via outskirts of Strumpshaw RSPB reserve ( whole walk is in the County by County ). Didn't have time to take in the reserve though which I would have liked but ...... well, there you go.

Several birds I'd already seen Friday, which isn't too surprising though as the habitats are pretty similar. Brought total to 54 for the 2 days.

Felt very summery today with boats on the river, few wisps of high cloud breaking up an otherwise clear blue sky. Saw a lot of activity with Sedge Warbler so wasn't any need to go in search of, lots of Swallow, cartloads of Swift up by Brundall plus 4 Hobby. Saw my first Cuckoo of the year, which soon became 2 Cuckoo... then 3 ...then 4.... , a family group of Greylags - 30 adult, 50 or so young.

Several Peacock butterflies, couple of Brimstone and Orange Tip plus some 'Whites'.

Also saw my first Dragonfly of the year - so need to go and buy a good id book now.

And to top it all ... match on at Vauxhall Mallards Cricket Club !

Found the GGBC an interesting exercise and intend to complete the exercise for my own benefit next week sometime by going round the reserve, that should give me a good snapshot of the area in early May. I think it would then be interesting to go round the same areas in quick succession on perhaps a quarterly basis, and see the seasonal variations in numbers, species etc.

I too am interested in the seasonal contents of several places notably Bowling Green AMrsh and Dawlish Warren.

I am jealous that you had a 'summery' day, it was dark and gloomy down here and has been for the last three days!

Yes, I've not actually thought of that slant on things before the GGBC, but I'd think it makes for a better understanding of the local areas.

As for the weather - yes absolutely superb I'm afraid to say Andrew. And none of that hazy mist we often get round here either.
