Sigma 100-400 f/5.0-6.3 (1 Viewer)

New leaks suggest there will soon be an announcement of a Sigma 100-400mm f/5.0-6.3

https://petapixel.com/2017/02/20/photos-4-new-sigma-lenses-leaked-3-new-art-lenses-coming-soon/

The fact it's 6.3 at the long end places it below the usual 100-400 options in terms of size and weight, as does the Contemporary rather than Sport label. This would place its target market as those who want something a bit more compact than the various 150-600 options while paying less than the Canikony 80/100-400 options.

It might also place it as more or less a direct competitor of the pana 100-400 -- although that market is probably too small for Sigma to bother.

Niels

Just bought this to go with a D500,will post some bird images if the weather ever picks up,first thoughts on none birds is very good,it will work on the Nikon V2 the same as Nikon FX/DX lenses.

A few samples from the 100-400 and D500

Looks sharp, any issues with AF, fast enough?

Did you drop the PanaLeica 100-400 etc.?

AF feels like it could be faster but i may get better with it, yes i parted with the m4/3 waiting 5 weeks for a replacement 100-400 and still no sign of it was just too much.

Use it with the D7200 after a couple of years with the Fuji 100-400 and XT series cameras.
I'm very very impressed, for the money its excellent value.
A Chalkhill Blue butterfly attached.
I'm still getting used to the camera let alone the lens so i'm sure better will follow in time.

When i first got my lens i was happy with it so never looked at AF fine tune, a couple of weeks ago my images started to look not so good, this made me do a AF fine tune on it,must say i am even more pleased with it.

The Swan is at 100mm and the Grey-lag eye at 400mm
