I was interested to note several differences between the Spring and Autumn broods of this attractive species. While it's always difficult to judge size correctly without direct comparison I would say that the later generation is at least 10% smaller than the earlier ones. They also appear to be paler coloured with the yellow seeming a little less intense. A final point seems to be that the body of the earlier brood is hairier which makes it appear lighter. A result of this is that the spots on the abdomen of these later individuals are more conspicuous.
Sorry if this is old hat but I don't see this species too often and I wondered whether these differences are generational or within the individual variation of the species? The picture on the left is a Spring specimen while the other two were from last week. All images from the Fuengirola district.
