These pictures were taken on January 2nd, in Chicago, IL, USA. The fellow on the left is a house sparrow, I believe. The one on the right is a dull, ruby red on the breast, top of head, and on its back. It's about the same size as the house sparrow. Any ideas? Thanks!

Actually, I believe they are both House Finches - the left one is a female and the right is the male. The female House Finch is plainer than a male House Sparrow in my opinion...

Yep, definitely a House Finch pair! This time of year these are the second most common species on our feeders (behind chickadees).
