I understand that this is not for captive birds... but I have a problem that I could use some expert advice on.
I live in NYC. I came home to find a baby bird pressed against my front door, wobbling. He appears to have fallen from a tree that is adjacent to the building. When a neighbor opened the door, he scurried inside. My neighbor was moving, so I put him in a clean carrier cage and brought him upstairs. If I let him outside, he will most certainly get stepped on or more likely, run over. What type of bird is this? I believe it is a wood thrush, but I am really not certain.
If so, does anyone have any advice on what I should do next? I called my local vet and made an appointment for tomorrow... I have mealworms and crickets on hand, for my lizard. How would I care for this bird or get it safely into the "wild" again?
Thank you.
