Yorkshire Birding (43 Viewers)

Interesting - as long as they're open tomorrow at 6 when I get there! It's been dark in York since about 2pm anyway with this cloud and rain!

Mate of mine estimated that there would be maybe 20 or so turn up at the first 'viewing' .. There were the best part of 150 !!!

Not sure of the numbers now ..

They did escort about 35 people who met at 8pm tonight by the car park gates, to the area ten minutes walk away. The Savi's was reeling with increasing intensity as time passed, but only showed at 9.35pm onwards low in a ditch. It was usually partially obscured but full scope views possible as it was always less than ten metres away.

Initially very frustrating but excellent in the end - also had barn owl, cuckoo, 2 adult med gulls. All in all well pleasing, and as others have said extreme gratitude to the RSPB staff for working such anti-social hours.

Access again tomorrow morning - 6-8am. Meet at the car park for 6am.

95 people turned up this morning.

A decision will be taken tomorrow as to access for Tuesday morning but at some point it will have to wind down a bit.

The bird has been far more reliable (in terms of views) in the morning rather than the evening which is why the focus has switched to mornings.

Peregrine, common buzzard and two kestrel from Sutton Bank this morning with heavy showers and hail passing over. Plenty of siskin around visitor centre feeders and woods.

Lifer for me this morning. The bird was very vocal and mobile between 6am - 7.30am before the wind picked up. I had one incredible view early on when it perched (clung onto) a reed, then other views were either partially obscured or in flight....not complaining though.

Did anyone stay after 08.30am and did it give those arriving after that time any better views

North Frodingham

spent saturday at my brothers . Not actively birding but certainly at least 2 cuckoos calling around the fishing lakes .But this chap was incredibly showy through most of the day...

Couple of pics from yesterday;

Went for the Savis and managed a brief glimpse of the bird mid-reel. Probably saw it a number of times in flight as it zipped up and down the reed bed but un-idable (?) from that. Obviously heard it, got an audio recording.

Went on to Hatfield and got a picture for Keith, loads of Ringed Plover and a few Dunlin, a hepatic cuckoo was nice but crashed across the path and disappeared, would have liked a good look at that. Plenty of Yellow Wagtail and a single LRP. Four spot chaser and large red damselfly?

The Moorend carpark was closed, don't really like using it so perhaps for the better, went round to Crowle and saw Tree Pipit just along from the car park, lots of blackcap about.

The rain was getting steadier so decided to head home calling in at Blacktoft. 45 blackwit, lots of avocet nookie and gales.
