Nikon PROSTAFF, 65mm - filter? (1 Viewer)

Hi All,

I've asked and searched for the answer to this (short of contacting Nikon.) Does the Prostaff accept a protective filter, and if so, what size? Brand suggestions welcomed, as well. I plan to be at the beach next month, observing elephant seals. Could be windy.

is there a thread forward of the objective lens ? .

And the answer is...

According to the reply to my message to Nikon, "The Prostaff spotting scope does not accept filters."

So I guess that's that. I don't want to fool around and void the warranty. I suppose I could attach something to the sunshade, but I'd have to be careful for internal reflections.

has the sunshade an internal thread for the objective cap ?, if so, buy a camera rubber lens hood to fit the sunshade , the rubber lens hood will also have a filter thread in it. use the lens hood as your sunshade . fold back to store. p.s. i did this to my nikon ed 50 to make a sunshade with filter. digi pro filters are best.

Thank you, Stuart, but this spotting scope has an integrated, sliding sunshade with an attached cap. There is no internal thread. The barrel is threaded, but only to the extent that it's for the objective's retaining ring.

I think it may be possible to affix a filter to the sliding shade, but I worry about image degradation if it's not exactly parallel. I think I could safely mic the inner diameter of the sunshade. So your idea of the rubber hood might be something I can adapt. Thanks!
