Took this picture at the weekend at Haweswater - am I right in assuming its an adult plus last year youngster? The size difference seems too great for male and female.

I'd agree an adult and a young snake (I wouldn't go further, insufficient experience in ageing) but the large one looks on structure like a female despite its bold markings? Can't see the back end of the young one to judge it.
