Hottentot teal? (1 Viewer)

I tink this is Hottentot teal, but the blue coloring on the edge of the winf does not show in my guide. Is my ID correct?

Hi Leon,

This is a Hottentot Teal. The feathers on the wing that look blue are irridescent, so can look various different colours depending on the light.

Thank you.

If going to the id list, I'll just add a hint:
If you see a duck in the genus Anas that has a dark cap and a bill that is mostly bluish-grey, then there are only three possibilities:

1) Hottentot Teal.
2) Silver Teal
3) Puna Teal.

- (and probably some hybrids!)

1 is an African species 2 & 3 are South American.

The minute size of Hottentot Teal also gives it away rather easily.
