Fishing Lure stuck on Ring-billed Gull (1 Viewer)

I went birding today (Lincoln, NE USA) and came across a ring-billed gull with a fishing lure stuck on him. He seemed pretty down in the dumps. I tried to slowly approach him and help him but he flew away. It pretty much ruined an otherwise good day of birding. Below are some photos, but not for the faint of heart.

Once I saw a pigeon with supermarket plastic bag stuck to its wings, I thought oh gosh how could he fly with that. So I tried to help him remove it and followed him around, but he kept running away. I tried to catch up but then he flew up to a lamppost, together with the plastic bag. So oh, he could fly with that, maybe he's wearing it like a cape or something fashionable among pigeons. LOL.
