Dear all
I was in Bulgaria last week 8-17th May) and managed to get a bit of time off from work. I visited the wonderful Rusenski Lom and Lake Srebarna reserves, mostly for birding purposes (nothing new but all very nice, e.g.: Short-toed Eagle, Long-legged Buzzard, Egyptian Vulture, Dalmatian Pelican - 71 species altogether) but also taking pictures of whatever flowers and insects came along, too.
Here are five butterflies - 4 from Bulgaria, and to make up the 5th we're allowed, a nice Scarce Swallowtail from the Dalmatian coast in Croatia at the end of April. If anyone knows these species and would like to quibble, I'd be happy for comments, and all suggestions for No 3 welcomed with open arms.
1. Amanda's Blue - Agrodiaetus amanda
2. Balkans Blue - Polyommatus erioides (which Higgins also calls False Eros Blue in the text - some error somewhere)
3. Unknown Blue (possibly somewhere around Dusky Large Blue, Scarce Large Blue...??)
4. Glanville Fritillary - Melitaea cinxia
5. Scarce Swallowtail -Iphiclides podalirius
Thanks in advance for all ideas.
David
