Is my identification correct? (I have learn't know to double check)

These were taken at "Rust te winter" about 100km north of Pretoria.

Leon,
The confusion species here is Glaucidium capense ngamiense. To me this looks like Glaucidium perlatum licua. For capense I would expect to see a zone of fine light-dark cross-barring on the upper breast and then lower down on breast and onto belly I would expect to see triangular spotting that I don't see here.

Does the Barred owl (capense) also have "eyes" on the back of its head?
