Rescued a baby bird, can anyone help? (1 Viewer)

Hi let me start off by saying I've no idea what I'm doing. I found a bird outside my house, who was stuck to his dead brother. Strange I know, however I believe he was born attached to his brother by adjoining feathers on his left foot. After confirming it I made the choice to cut the feathers and now he is free, without a left leg.it appears that the leg did not fully develop however he can still move about. I believe he is a fledgling since he does have feathers. His nest is too far out of reach for me to return him and I don't want him to die from the bugs outside. So what should i do? I'll try to get pictures up soon.

Try putting it in a padded empty hanging basket and hang it from a limb in the tree that the nest is in. This happens a lot and hopefully the parents will realize it is theirs in the basket and continue to feed it. Otherwise, if that doesn't work than I would call a local wildlife rehabber and bring the fledgling to them.

Hi there and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum :t:

Hi ftmanglona and a warm welcome from me too.

We have some general guidelines here for the care of injured and baby birds. Please let us know how you get on.
