Hi Roman, more info on the Nest Record Scheme from BTO site here:

Your post cites methods that are doubtless highly effective in addressing such questions as whether a nest has reached the nestling stage or has fledged successfully. The nest records scheme methodology uses these as much as is practical to locate and monitor nest attempts, such as when I check my kittiwake nests via scope. When a count of passerine eggs or chicks is needed though, which is the ideal level of detail for NRS data, usually the nest must be checked up close. This allows tabs to be kept on all aspects of bird demography for common and rare species. In no other way (for many species) can laying date, hatch rate or fledgling rate be measured, really fundamental measurements if you have the opportunity to collect them!
