Please help: 20-60x zoom eyepiece problem? (1 Viewer)

My zeiss 85mm diascope, 20-60x vario-okular eyepiece and zeiss universal tripod just arrived but I am unable to insert the eyepiece into the scope properly. The eyepiece falls into place inside the reciever (red dot on scope aligned to white dot on eyepiece) but I am unable to turn it counterclockwise as the manual instructs me to. If I invert the scope, the eyepiece just falls off. This sounds stupid but any help will be really appreciated. How much is the eyepiece supposed to turn?

Thanks.
