tame chaffinches (1 Viewer)

I remember a few years back visiting an area near the foot of ben nevis and finding to my delight chaffinches that where quiet happy to come within a few inches of my hand. Even moving around didn't scare them. Is because they aren't use to humans? Has anybody else had a similar experience?

I think rather than NOT being used to humans, Chaffinches become accustomed to them, I've found. I was at Bedgebury a few years ago, and a male was virtually begging at the tables in the picnic area. Anyone who has been to Longleat House will have noticed the same thing in the outdoor food court.

We've had several chaffinches in the car with us at northumberland feeding from bread, yet the one in the garden will fly off at the first sign of danger.
