Nikon Monarch HG (1 Viewer)

The right eyepiece diopter ring on the Premier/LXL/HGL also locked. You pulled it up to turn it and pushed it back down to lock it.

The link in the previous post indicates that the MHG will be available in stock (in Japan) on July 29---that would be quick.

EDG 8x32 - L 138 * W 139 * D 50 mm Weight 655 g
MHG 8x42 - L 145 * W 131 * D 56 mm Weight 665 g
M7 8x42 - L 142 * W 130 * D 57 mm Weight 650 g
M7 8x30 L 119 * W 123 * D 48 mm Weight 435 g

The MHG surely look very interesting. The EDG 32 mm is one heavy beast and large too. The MHG 8x42 has almost the same weight and not deterrent larger either but with a substantially larger objective lens.
Could we hope for an 8x32 MHG sized about L 122 * W 125 * D 49 mm Weight 480 g?

With a transmission of 92% Nikon must be taking Tobias's advice and putting some higher grade glass and better coatings on these than the dark EDG's II. These are the binoculars Nikon should have come out with when they introduced the troubled EDG's I. I would buy a pair in a minute. SF killer's for 1/3rd the price. Give me the 8x42's.

I doubt if we will see a Monarch 7HG 8x32 as light as 480 grams (17 oz) with its Magnesium body. 19 or 20 ounces would be fine with me though.:t:

But we may not see one at all.

The current Monarch 7 8x30 which has ED Glass, Dielectric Prisms and an 8.3º FOV and weighs 435 grams (15.3 oz) as you noted, is selling very well for under $400.00.

Not to worry!

I am sure that Nikon consulted with Tobias when they designed these!

'Porky' Zeiss SF now obsolete and overpriced !! ={

Jeez, looks like the Zeiss SF just got walloped ! :gn:

In a play straight out of the Zeiss marketing manual of redundant and extraneous fluff & bunkum, these new 'HG's' will have "a bright view of up to 92% or higher light transmittance" .......... hahahaha !!! 8-P

Zeiss SF trumping wide Fov's .... AND ..... ~100grams+ (4 0z+) lighter! ..... AND ! ....... ~1/3RD of the price ! :eek!: |:d| :t:

Bring that on !! :t: :t:

POW !!!! GoodNight Zeiss SF ....... :-C :gn:

Made in Japan sounds promising, the same quality level as the HGL:s will be sufficient. To me the HGL:s feel almost as solid as the EDG:s do.
A bit odd that Nikon mix HG and Monarch though, the Monarch name does not ooze of quality IMO......

I agree with that. There is more cachet in the "HG" brand, although some other companies have some ordinary glass which they deem "High Grade", so perhaps 'XHG' would have been better, for several reasons:

* It harks back to the 'LX' naming in some markets, and the unique :cat: mid range FRP dielectric prism Monarch X http://www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/Nikon8.5x45MonarchX-83.htm and even though this was a model positioned lower?/different? from the HG line, it wouldn't hurt just to borrow the 'X' and make a clear distinction, and leave the Monarch business to the upper entry level chin bin stuff (Monarch 7 and below) .....
*The 'X' in 'XHG' can be used to hybridize the two into one "clear" 2nd tier offering from Nikon ...... which would ("clearly") 3:) be something of a first! :eek!: :-O
*The 'X' in 'XHG' could stand for 'Extra', ..... well, 'cause, you know ...... more is always better ! |:d|

All in all, looks like a welcome and very much belated! update :t:

Yes, the MHG:s 8x32 seem mysteriously light compared to the EDG 8x32.
Might be due to reduced rubber armoring, and a thinner mag. chassi.
Perhaps smaller prisms and more efficient but thinner/lighter glass also.
They have plastic eye cups for sure. And eye pieces are not as big as EDG:s either.

A future 10x50 MHG would possible weigh only 800 grams!

But we'll see if the figures are correct.
Zeiss HT was off specs by 50 grams or so.
