Hi

Found this one tagged 'M10' in a mixed flock of Lesser Sand Plovers and Kentish plovers in the Adyar estuary in Chennai, India. This was taken on 31-Oct-16. Any idea where this is from/with whom I can check on this? Thanks a lot.

Cheers
Ajay

Check cr-birding and Euring websites. There are probably others that cover SE Asia, but you will need someone with knowledge from there to help.

I have found it relatively easy to track down the scheme especially for flagged birds like this.

Thanks a lot. Really appreciated.

This may have been ringed as part of a project in East Africa using white flags, see http://www.arocha.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Jackson-2016-BIOD-OBS-Sandplover-migration.pdf However, the leg flags don't match the published protocol exactly. Nor do they match the New Zealand protocol (white flags), which limits usage to one flag per tibia for this species. I would submit your sighting to [email protected] who should be able to pin it down.

Phil

Very interesting. Shall mail them and post the reply here. Thanks very much.

India is a relatively new flagging region within the East Asian-Australasian Flyway (http://www.eaaflyway.net/)

White/White is from Northern India - See http://eaaflyway.net/documents/Protocol_birds marking.pdf

I don't know a direct contact in India but here is another link with an email address you can report sightings from throughout the flyway and they will forward details to the relevant national scheme ... http://www.shorebird-network.net/shorebirds/shorebird-leg-flags/

Thanks very much for this. Shall get in touch with them and post the reply here. Cheers.

Hi - Did manage to get the information. This Lesser Sand Plover was flagged at Nalabana Island of Chilika Lake, Odisha, India on 18th January 2015. It is ~900 kms (aerial distance) from where this was photographed.

Cheers
