WIndows Updates seems to have gone? (1 Viewer)

Windows updates seems to have vanished from my computer.
All I have is an empty folder?
How do I get it back?
Been on the Microsoft site and that piece of rubbish seems to think I have windows updates running...can't find anywhere where I can download the program from?

Tried running in safe mode and still no joy.
Did run the Microsoft trouble shooter and it gave these two reports

That's a specialist area, well beyond my knowledge. I suggest you go here and follow the instructions carefully: http://www.sysnative.com/forums/windows-update/4736-windows-update-forum-posting-instructions.html and let the experts work out what's wrong and how to recover it.

I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials last night as the Windows Update thing had caused Mcafee Firewall and AV to stop working. This morning whilst I was typing a post for the site you recommended, Windows Update started running and downloaded a shedload of updates. I've no idea what happened - can only guess that the Ms Essentials Security program did something.
It now seems to be running quite okay.
I'll never understand computers if I lifr to be a thousand years old

MSE relies on the Windows Update mechanism to download the latest malware definitions daily, so it may well have some ability to refresh/repair those settings.

2. Is the windows running properly?
3. What is the folder you are looking at?
