Hi all,
I am visiting NC for 6 days soon and will be planning a whole day dedicated to spotting near Wilmington. I hope to have a guide set for the day but would like to get some advice from you guys as what to expect. I will be bringing my binos (naturally) but wondered if I should struggle through airports with my tripod and spotting scope?

Yes, you should bring your scope. Some of the best areas at this time of year are along the coast: beaches, coastal marshes, etc. Birds such as sea ducks, loons, grebes, gannets, will often be too far away for a good view with binos.
