They often offer a 20% 'coupon' via email that you can apply on top of the sale price as they did today.

Minox is a German company, as the ad states, but the binoculars aren't made there as the ad implies. I suspect they are made in Japan but there is nothing on my BD 10 x 32 BR Asph. or in the literature supplied with it that states where it is manufactured. The price, however, seems to be very good, especially with the additional 20% rebate coupon. Camera Land in NYC also sells them as demo's, samples and discontinued. www.cameralandny.com

The older heavy BDs have been discontinued - the newer lighter ones are due very soon.

They are of Japanese origin BTW.

and comparing the original BD 10 x 42 BR to the new, I am not sure why one would want to pay $600+ (USD) for the new model. When you can have the older one for $352 from the Sierra Trading Post (with a 20% off coupon).

The old model weighs a 'whopping' 2.2 ounces or 65 grams more , but it has a wider FOV at 1,000 feet than the new BD 10 x 42 BR (351 feet vs. 321).
It seems like a pretty good trade-off to me for a savings of at least $250.

Am I missing something here?
Thanks in advance.
