A friend of mine asked if for a holiday tripin Italy with family, but also with birding , Sardinia or Tuscany would be a better place ??

I can´t answer that but thought itmight help to ask here; somebody might have visited both places?

Why not Corsica rather than Sardinia? OK the obvious answer is that it's not Italy (!), but the bonus would be Corsican Nuthatch!

That would be my and your thoughts,

but he would like rather to have an overview which is better for seing birds easily ; without a special focus on rarities.
Good chances to see a nice set of mediterranean birdlife would make him perfectly happy.

I believe this guy lives in Tuscany and in my opinion one of the best bird photographers. http://www.pbase.com/dophoto

In Tuscany there are a number of good spots.
Monti Amiata an isolated mountain in the central appenines. It is good for passing raptors especially in migration

The Parco Regionale dell'Ucellina Essentially the mouth of the river Ombrone. Seawatching can be good from here.

Orbetello lagoon a wwf site a brackish lagoon with a list of 300 species

Serchio River Mouth near Pisa
