Window Decals

I've been wondering about window decals, since I keep having Mourning Doves crashing into my window. Its hard enough to wake me up if I'm still sleeping... so I've decided I need to do something about it before the Doves start killing themselves.

Has anyone had any experience with these decals that apparently show up transparent for humans but is blue to the birds? I found them from this link: http://www.duncraft.com/Leaf-WindowA...s-P1801C0.aspx
If anyone has had experience with something possibly better, don't hesitate to let me know about that either! I do require static decals, I can't use adhesives on my window as I rent the house.

Thanks in advance!

I see no reason why the UV reflecting decals wouldn't work as well as traditional decals, but have not personally tried them because we haven't had a window collision problem for years...

You can also make your own cut-outs and hang them in front of the window (on the outside). I also know people that hung wind chimes in front of the window (I prefer to hear the birds and not the chimes, but to each his own).

Most regular bird-window collisions occur when a feeder is about 5-15 feet from a large window (depending on the size of the window and the reflection in the window).

Birds do hit the window if the feeder is very close to the window, but they don't usually hit the window very hard. When the feeder is far from the window, the window is a small target, and the birds have many options as where to escape.

The decals work in two ways.

Often the objects are designed to give the bird the impression that they form a collision risk in themselves, ie, bird silhouettes.

Birds see glass in a different way to humans and the objects help the birds re-focus their eyes and see that glass is a barrier not a flyway.

Here in the UK, we have a product called Patio Birds and and a similar but more decorative product featuring barn swallows. The simple silhouette designs are used by the RSPB at The Lodge and other centres and I used a new set after starting to see one or two casualties at an unprotected window. They seemed to work immediately with the exception of a double imprint caused one weekend. The main imprint was clearly a woodpigeon and it was sometime before I realised there was a fainter imprint of a sparrowhawk just a little higher. Therefore, there were extenuating circumstances behind this collision. :)
