Yellow-masked bird in Key Largo, FL
Hello all,
Does anyone recognize this bird I saw in late March -- Key Largo, Florida? He/she was not in any Florida bird guide I have so I wondered if it was a visitor from the Caribbean? It was talking/singing up a storm! Thanks, Carole |

Hi Carole,
Welcome to the forum. That is a Common Myna. It is an introduced species that has spread fairly widely through South Florida. Not all bird guides have the recently introduced species-- and there are quite a few in Florida. I believe the common myna is from Asia originally. Best, Jim

Agree - it is a common myna. I saw them back in 2003 in Islamorada and Key West - very noisy.

Common Myna is also increasing its numbers in Southern Florida?

Common myna is well established in Florida. The only reason it's not on the ABA list is because nobody has done the documentation.
