New Zealand Storm Petrel!!

Hi,everyone, hope you all had an enjoyable Xmas.
I have just read this in the daily paper.
" A New Zealand Storm Petrel, thought to have been extinct for more than 150 yrs,has been spotted off North Island".Taken from today's Daily Mirror, page 11.
Has anyone else heard anymore re this sighting?.If it is true, must surely be a first to find a bird which has been extinct for over 100 yrs,and would there be pictures ,one could find on the Web.
Thankyou,Christine.

Hi Christine,
There is a write up of the New Zealand Storm Petrel in this months Birding World. A friend of mine discovered well over ten birds on a pelagic out of sandspit, North Island ,New Zealand on the 17th November 2003. The pictures he took are fantastic.

Steve, thankyou, very ,very interesting. Is it possible I can transfer the names of these two sites (the one Jason mentioned) into Google favourites without having to copy them out.I tried to highlight and paste but could not highlight the Google favourites bar.
I think it is wonderful that a bird thought to be extinct suddenly shows up ,and hopefully can have a full breeding programme.
Christine.

Christine, if you look at the Favourites Menu at the top of the page you are now looking at you will see that the first option is "Add to Favourites". Simply go to the site you want to add, then choose this option.
