Hi
Hope you can help. I've just added a rain guard to my compact bins and find that the 'buckles' of the strap prevent the guard from seating properly over the eyepieces. The obvious solution is to position the 'buckles' much higher up the strap - but the strap is too short! Ideally I need a source for 10mm black nylon strapping so that I can fabricate a suitable length, about 1.5m. Hope you can follow the drift - any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks Riverdance |

I use a harness for my binoculars, sold by Eagle Optics in Wisconsin. The elastic straps separate too much for the rain guard to avoid binding, so I simply tied one end of the rain guard to a black shoelace. I can position the rain guard out of my way on sunny days (over my shoulder or near the small of my back), or have it near the binocs on misty/rainy days.
This works quite well for me. The rain guard was designed for use with the original Pentax web strap, but I don't use that because I don't like the weight on my neck, hence the harness. Steve in Houston |

Thanks for the ingenious suggestion - it's certainly worth a try - I'm sure the basic design of rainguards could be improved - I know some models now have 'flip up' guards and maybe they'll become more universal in time. In addition to trying your idea, I'm considering trying a longer lead using a 10mm dog lead! Who ever said 'birding' was easy! Thanks again Riverdance in County Kerry |
