uk curlew/whimbrel ?

Hello,
The bill is seems shorter for either curlew or whimbrel,try exploring the sandpipers eg pectoral,shap tailed and upland. all the best moses-birding club of lake baringo |

It's a difficult angle. I'd say the bill is longer than it appears.

It's probably a young curlew but I think the usual practice in these circumstances is to claim it as an extinct species

Yup, juv Curlew. The very short bill, even at this angle, probably indicates it's a male. We're seeing a lot more very short-billed male Curlew here on the Dee over the past few years.

Curlew for me. Bill length can vary considerably so should not be taken as a definate diagnostic feature.
