I have almost desided to buy this camera. It seems to be just what I've been looking for. There is just one thing that bothers me a bit; In some (not all) reviews I have read there has been complaints about "purple fringing" that occours in some situations.
Question 1: Is this really a thing to worry about, or is it a rare or small phenomena?
Question 2: Does this kind of abberation get worse with zoom set on wideangle than on tele?

By the way, I intend to use it for digiscoping as well as ordinary photography. Has anyone tried the filter adapter LA_DC52D? I'm wondering if it could be used as a "support" when didiscoping handheld against the ocular (And as a help to aviod getting too close and scratch it)?

Most digital compact cameras seem to suffer from a certain amount of fringing in some situations - usually around high contrast areas.

Purple or blue seem to be the commonest colours.

It's probably not going to be noticed by most users of these types of cameras, especially if they only have normal-sized prints made. But, once you're aware of it your eye will be drawn to it.

I don't know anything yet about the purple fringing etc.
But I can tell you the first shots that I took handheld looked nice.

Hi Falco

I wouldn`t worry too much about purple fringing,it`s quite easy to correct in any of the image editing programs.Most cameras & scopes suffer from this from time to time,although with higher spec scopes using ED,APO,HD glass its less of a problem.

Only noticed this problem on one day when taking photo's of a gull through my scope. Adult Common Gull, bright sunny day!
Not noticed any probs so far without scope!.

I have the adaptor, but not got anything to adapt yet.

I use a cut down 35mm platic film carton ( Fuji clear, the black ones are too tight. )with a hole cut in the base to stop eyepiece scratching.

Thank you all for yor comments! My hesitations has gone away. I think I will order an A80 now!
That alternative adapter looks really nicer than the original.
It seems like a clever idea to use a film carton to guide the lens right, but I'm not sure it fits my Swarovski 20-60xS zoom eyepiece (It's a pretty wide eyepiece).

Just wrap a thick tape around the film container until it just fits into the centre of your scopes eyepiece!.

Sorry I don't know iff it's available here in Belgium I bought mine online by Lensmate.
But I already sold the camera and adapter.
