Steve,
The listing goes to a link which says the item is no longer available. I wonder who saw the auction/link and offered something "off-line". ![]() |

Frank I copied it again and it seems to work now. I didn't try it when I posted the first time. Thanks!

Steve,
Thanks. Now if it was just the angled model I probably would jump on this opportunity. At 6'4" I would have to pick up a fairly tall spotting scope to make this scope work. Either that or start carrying a chair around with me when I go out to use it. :-) |

Frank, Doug at CameralandNY has the angled 50ED demo bundled with a 13-30x zoom ep for $599.99 shipped. That's just $50 more than the refurbished combo Steve has posted.

Let us know how you like the scope and eyepiece when you receive it. I have
the same scope, the fixed, will limit you to 16X, which may not be enough. The ED50, will go to 40X with high quality. Just something to think about for those watching. The zoom is a better option for all around. The ED50 normally is packed with the 13-30 MC zoom, and the 13-40 MCII is even better. It is getting hard to find the zoom eyepieces sold individually. ND,
I am tinkering with the idea of just ordering the scope body. I am betting on the Theron Mag82 zoom possibly working with the Nikon ED scope body since they are very similar. I would also have the Theron 30x to see how 16x looks. I have heard that some of the Nikon eyepieces won't work in the Theron but some might. Will see what happens. |

That would be interesting as it seems the Theron has tried to clone the Nikon. The Nikon ED50 is a very nice scope as most all agree, and I find it amazing how great a view in such a small package. It would be good to see if other eyepieces fit. Jerry |

Frank I don't think you would have any trouble selling the ED50 OTA if it doesn't work out for you. These 50ED scope only are hard to find in the U.S/ North America.
I have the MCII on my ED50 and like it a lot with that eyepiece. I used it on the Moon a good while back and had an excellent view of that object.

Regarding bargains, I found 1 seller on ebay selling Victory fl 8x42 for 1000 quid, however this is an auction - still a very good price. Anyone wanting to check it out should search for it, I won't paste in the link as I'm unsure whether it is allowed here.
There is also 1 more pair - used, 8x42 for 900. Considering the prices now, these are pretty good deals. Last edited by xfrostx : Monday 27th June 2011 at 10:24. |

Ok, so I broke down and ordered one of the Nikon ED50s at the auction. That is why there are only two left.
;-) I did want a 50 mm model but really wanted angled. Truth be told, I ordered it more to see if the Theron eyepieces will work with over anything else. I am sure I will love the view but with two other recent scope acquisitions I doubt I will be able to keep it. |

How good is the 13-30x zoom eyepiece that comes standard with some of the ED50's? I see some other Fieldscope eyepieces and wonder how they would fit since they have no rating at 50mm, just 60mm & 78mm such as a 30x/38x ? What would be some good EP? The 13-40MCII seems to be unavailable or very hard to find. thanx tom |

Tom:
I will pipe in here also. Go over to the BF spotting scope subforum, Nikon, much discussion devoted to that very topic, of eyepieces. I have both you mention, the MCII has a twistup eyecup, and the MC has rubber fold down. The ED50 is very capable of 40X, so the MCII will give you the 13-40, the MC 13-30X. I hope that helps. Here is a merchant that shows the MCII zoom, at a great price, Bear Basin Outfitters, I have no connection. Jerry Last edited by NDhunter : Monday 27th June 2011 at 23:01. Reason: Add on. |

Between the Nikon fixed mags, the 20x Wide MC #7463 provides the optimum tradeoff between magnification, FoV, and brightness.

I was told if you contact the seller directly instead of Ebay he will knock off $20 on these reconditioned ED50 OTAs.

They beat me to it. :-)
Truth be told I have no experience with the Nikon zoom...only the similar Theron version. I will see how one works on the other when the time comes this week. I do have to admit that I was curious about those eyepieces you mentioned. I saw several on E-bay for some very respectable prices. It would be good to know if they are all interchangeable on all of the Nikon scopes (ie if it works and/or was designed for the 60/78 mm then will it work on the 82 and 50 mm models as well). |

Frank:
Much of this discussion would be better if on the spotting scope forum. Yes, the older FS eyepieces will fit the range of Fieldscope II and III, including the 50, 60, 72 and the 82. You will find it hashed out there. Jerry |

Good point. We really do need to start a "Spotting Scope Bargains" thread over there one of these days. Where is Kevin when you need him?

NYCV has a pair of new 8x32 SE's on ebay for $490. This is the same dealer outside of Philadelphia I found all the Nikon EII's at as well as some SE's last summer, and which many BF members bought. Their website is www.nycv.com and you could probably get them cheaper directly from them since they wouldn't have to pay the ebay fees. They are a very good outfit as I made arrangements for another BF member to buy both an 8x32 and 10x42 SE from them.

Thanks for pointing these out Galih!
I've ordered a pair, but it wasn't easy. I called on the 12th and talked to Neil. Doug was out of the office and Neil had not heard anything about this. I called back on the 13th and talked to his assistant. She said that they would have them next week. I called back today and talked to Neil again. He still wasn't aware of them, but he talked to his boss and found out that they were only going to get them if someone ordered them. I don't know what the serial number range will be, but this is a great price! They are selling for $450 or more used. They're also getting hard to find. Thanks again Galih! Mark |
