Amazon Warehouse has Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 8x42 for $130 with free shipping. They list them as used so they may not qualify for the $50 rebate. Still a good price. They have a great return policy. They give a refund including shipping both ways if they are defective.

Not sure if these are any good, the optics are only "coated," but they are dirt cheap, and some guys prefer read heads.

These are great bargains at these prices. I used the 9 x 36 as a car bin for nearly a year and then gave it to my son in Boston because it has nice long eye-relief and he wears glasses. It's FOV is the same as the Nikon 10 x 35 EII.

They both have much pincushioning at the edges and consequently are out of focus there but you can dial sharpness back in if you are so lazy you move your eyeballs instead of the binocular.

I kept the 7 x 36 and I think I will still hang on to it. Like all Diamonbacks they are built like tanks and should last darn near for ever with decent care.

Bob, your seal of approval bodes well for the bargains at hand.

As much a plug for Doug, as if he needed one, but the price seemed right for the seven and nine lovers in the smaller thirty-six millimeter format. I suffer from paralysis by analysis and by the time I'm ready to pull the trigger they'll be long gone.

I'm tempted sorely by the nine, but I've a previous gentleman's agreement on an eight power demo coming up, though no price was discussed, that should prove a tad flatter field. Were monies not a factor I'd buy one of each.

Always nice to see NOS @ reduced prices and perchance some folk might buy a little more glass than they had initially bargained. If I hadn't recently purchased a fine seven I'd be hard pressed not to pick one up.

I'm trying desperately to wait until the upcoming cycle before another charge is stacked against le carte blanche de la plastique.

There is a nice pair of "new" Nikon 8x30E porros for sale on the bay for $148 which seems like a good deal for these vintage binos. My understanding is that the last E's made after 1990 had the larger slanted "NIKON" logo, and slightly improved AR coatings.

These are the older non FMC Nikon E series. The newer FMC version has a white disk with a 'C' on it. The 'C' stands for Criterion. The non FMC versions are still really good, though. I've got the non FMC 7x35E and they're great. The 8x30E also has less eye relief than the EII, I believe.

my question is -- why would you get a D'back when the 6.5x32 Fury model is dirt cheap ($129 at CameraLandNY, $159 at Eagle Optics, etc)? Does the Diamondback do anything BETTER than the Fury?

comparing the 7x36 Diamondback, the 6.5x32 Fury has wider FOV, better close focus, better IPD range and is 1.4 oz lighter. And the Fury is the higher line with XR multicoatings. Is there a reason to buy the 7x36 DB for MORE money than the 6.5x32 Fury?

I did own a 6.5 x 32 Fury for a short time when it came out. I sent it back because it had a wandering diopter adjustment. The diopter was part of the center focus mechanism and there were problems with it. Many were returned until they got it right. It did have a nice wide FOV but I already had a 6 x 32 and a 7 x 42 and decided that I didn't need it. It cost much more money at that time too. I've thought about getting one at the close out price but I still don't need it. I assume the diopter problem was solved. At any rate, Vortex has a great guarantee, but if something went wrong with it and they didn't want to fix it, I'd probably have to settle for an equivalent replacement.

I don't need the 7 x 36 Diamondback either but I got it anyway to see what I was missing and the price was right so I kept it. It is well built and like the 9 x 36 should last a long time.

I'd tend to agree... Fury optics at the $130 range new is pretty tough to beat. I think the d-backs are jsut a little more compact, as the Fury is pretty large for a x32. Not a huge difference though, but thats something for someone.

I snagged a Fury to give as a gift last year and was thrilled with it, as was the recipient.

I am not sure how many of you actually check out the classifieds section of this site. I have to readily admit to overlooking it more often than not. Another forum member was kind enough to send me an email about a post in there.....

http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=213414

It seems a long time contributer to the forum is selling quite a few optics. There are still several left at some really silly prices. I thought the rest of you would like to know.

Yes, there were some great deals! I bought his Zen-Ray 7x36 ED2 and Bushnell Legend 10x50 porros. The Zens came today. They are absolutely pristine! Bryce takes good care of his equipment. I only had a few minutes to check them out on the deck at sunset. They're pretty impressive. No play in the focusing and sharp as a tack. Hopefully, the Bushnells will come Monday. The Pentax 20x60's he still has are a great bargain.

I know CL has been running these for a while, Viper 8.5x50, but I just ordered one from Neil and he said there was only a couple left. Still $299 & 10 clams on a bino harness if needed. These should definitely provide a flat field 305' at 1000' FOV/5.8 degrees and I checked w/Vortex the prisms are dielectric coated. At 28.7 oz it's no featherweight, but I might need the extra weight to help me hold the 8.5 steady as I try to pull in Jupiter's moons hand held. The idea of a big fat exit pupil and the extra 0.5x appeared intriguing enough.

Not for the faint of heart or light of wallet, but seems to be a fair amount off the normal 10x42 ultravid hd price. A mere $1430, and the obligatory 99 cents:

http://www.amazon.com/Leica-Ultravid...59020&sr=1-122

Price is less than it was few days ago.

It looks like Amazon has the Bushnell Legend Ultra demo/used models back in stock for $136. It shows 3 in stock at the moment......

http://www.amazon.com/Bushnell-Legen...476144&sr=1-75

The unit that I ordered a couple of weeks ago could not be distinguished from a new unit. This is definitely an excellent deal especially with the $50 rebate.

Generally all that is required is that you mail them a copy of your sales receipt and the UPC label from the bottom of the box . I got a couple of rebates back last year without any problems, and one of my receipts was for $115 and the other was $165.

I bought one of the $130 8x42 Legend Ultra HD's from Amazon recently and noticed that it appeared Amazon had stuck their own label over the UPC code, so I am waiting to hear if this is a problem.

How do those compare to the Sightron "Blue Sky" II 8x32 ?

Thanks Bruce

Bruce, that question is pertinent! I do want to know! Of course each of those two binoculars has different engineering choices to deliver the view. Which most satisfies?
