For those interested in older binoculars, I can offer my experience with two 6x30 sets, one Porlerim, the other Skyline. They were made ca. 47-50, the German one identified as made in the American zone. Although the price was much higher for the Porlerim, and the condition equal for both (clear glass and some minor paint loss), it seemed to me that the Skyline was slightly brighter and sharper. I attribute this to the amount of polishing done, rather than to the glass formula. It indicates (once more), that Japanese products were even then seriously underrated. I have found other very well-made older Japanese binoculars going for very little on the Internet, and, save for the highly-demanding, excellent for a great majority of users.

Carpincho, post 3126,
The 6x30 Porlerim is made by Hartmann Wetzlar, it is one of their porro models, the Skyline is unknown for me.

B&H Photo has the Zeiss Terra ED 10x32 for $219 until Saturday evening. Not as good as some of the previous deals at Midway, but still decent for lower midrange binoculars.

Will do. My Leica Ultravid 8x20 are much less useful now that I have started wearing glasses, and I am looking forward to the better eye relief on the Zeiss, plus the benefits of fluorite lenses.

Scope for sale (again at Cabela's). The Cabela's Instinct Euro HD scope is on sale for $1800 ($500 off regular price). This is basically the same scope as the Meostar S2 with a non-removable 20-70 zoom eyepiece.

Tract Bino Kits

Tract has an offer from Aug 1st thru Aug 8th, where they have put together a kit of accessories with the two Toric models and two Teoka models and then knocked $75 dollars off the price.

The accessories are:
- Harness $17
- Lens Pen $10
- Case $10

The $75 discount is greater than the total of the accessories so another way to look at it is the binocular is on sale below the normal price and the accessories are included for no extra cost.

8X42 Toric
- Normally $654, now $616

10X42 Toric
- Normally $664, now $626

8X42 Toka
- Normally $454, now $416

10X42 Toka
- Normally $464, now $426

Nikon Monarch Madness and More $50 to $100 Instant Rebates

Nikon USA has just started their Monarch Madness and More promotion. It runs through Sept. 20th, 2017.

Nikon is offering instant rebates from $50 to $100 of various Monach models. I do not know what the "More" part represents. As of earlier this AM Nikon USA still had not updated the prices on all of the models showing the reduced prices so be sure and check the vendor price to make sure it includes the instant rebate.

Discounts

$100 - Monarch HG 8X42, 10X42

$50 - Monarch 7 8X42, 10X42

$50 - Monarch 5 8X42, 10X42, 12X42

$50 - Monarch 3 8X42, 10X42

$50 - Monarch 3 Camo 8X42, 10X42

Thanks Bruce - only 42mm models though - the 30mm Monarch 7 are obviously selling well enough...

The Nikon store mostly shows backordered, but other big online vendors show the rebate.

Only checking on the 6X30 series, the Leupold website shows the black model as no longer for sale, but the new gray model is currently listed. They also gray 8X and 10X models on the index page.

It appears they are going with gray across the binocular product line and are discontinuing other colors. They may still have camo in some lines. So maybe BX-1 Yosemite will live on but in a gray color armor.

These are black, 6x30 is shadow gray for 85, so perhaps that is the reason. Although when I read discontinued I usually do not associate that w/colour.

Had the 6x30 been the same price as the 10x30 I probably would've bought them as well.

Vortex Viper HD 6x32 for $350 and 8x32 for $360 are available on the cabelas website (bargain cave, optics, binoculars) listed under vortex compact binoculars (you may have to go to the second page of the binocular listings to find it). Limited quantities. Nothing I am interested in but have heard some say they like these or would like to buy these if they could find them....

New Zeiss Conquest HD 10X42 $773.99 - Optics Planet

Optics Planet has the Zeiss Conquest HD 10X42 on sale for $899.99. Normal price is $999.99. In addition, they currently have a coupon code for select binoculars taking an additional 14% off, and this code works with the Zeiss 10X42 Conquest HD. This gives a price of $773.99 plus free economy shipping. The coupon is OPT14 and it expires Monday, August 28 12:00 AM CDT.

There is also a message that displays after sitting on the web page for a short period of time saying to call for special offers. Only one coupon code can be applied at a time so I suspect this message may be of benefit after the above coupon expires. It may be worth it to call to find out what is the best deal.

Also of interest is that Optics Plant added a Vanguard binocular Harness into the shopping cart for free when I tested out the deal. The harness is normally $17.

I bought this binocular last year from Optics Planet when they had a similar sale. It is one of my favorites with a near top tier view. It is extremely comfortable to use for me. Zeiss offers free optional eye cups that extend out a little bit more. That is one of the reasons I find this model so easy to use.

The coupon code also applies to the 8X42, but it is not on sale.

Followup:

The above Optics Planet deal also works on the Nikon HG 8X42. That puts the out the door price of this model at $774.36 compared to the normal street price of $979.95. The savings is $205.59.

I did not post this in the original note because Optics Planet website showed one in stock of the 8X42 when first checking out the offer and I ordered it. Later I checked back and it is now showing a status of "In Stock". I am not sure why it originally showed only one in stock. This looks to be a good deal for here in the U.S. The exceptional wide FOV of the 8X does stand out compared to other competing binoculars in this price range.
