Spring Morning Wake Up Call [Brisbane, Australia] - Sound file included
Hi Guys,
Since spring has started there has been 1 bird that is "calling" between 3am to 5:30am, it stops when the sun comes out. There's normally 13 seconds between each call but to shorten the mp3 file I cut out the gaps. I'm quite certain the bird is nested up a tree somewhere and not on the ground as there are a lot of cats around the area. http://members.optusnet.com.au/~j.an...nknownbird.mp3 Location: Hendra, Brisbane, Australia. Could you please tell me which bird this is? Regards |

It's a male Pied Butcher Bird doing it's pre-dawn mating call. Seeking a female under the cover of darkness.

when you said 3am - I was expecting to hear a file with Koel calling. But no - as you've already answered your own question - a Pied Butcherbird.

Mat,
I emailed a lecturer at a University who told me the answer. Decided to post the answer here incase anyone wanted to know. The call is highly seasonal and should be finishing soon - I can't wait to get some sleep. James |
