Listening equipment

What kind of microphone and equipment would I need to listen to birds and wildlife in my backyard as I read and drink coffee in my house? I am not really interested at this time in recording or saving the sounds. Where would I purchase the equipment?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rich
