coolpix & polarizing filter?

Hello,

Has anyone had any experience using a polarizing filter with coolpix
cameras?

I'm thinking of getting one to use with water fowl photos.... trying to
eliminate some of the glare that comes off of the water and also to
intensify the colors... both in the water and the reflecting sky.

I realize the filter will cut out a little bit of light (an f stop or 2??) but
I'd be using it primarily on a sunny day.

I've used them before with 35mm slr's.... with good results.

My plan is to use a lcd hood and wear a pair of polarized sunglasses so
that I can "view" the effect of the filter thru the lens. As you turn the
filter, you should be able to see just how much glare is being cut down.

... it sounds like it should work.

thanks,
Linda

You will need to get a circular pattern as opposed to a linear pattern polarizer, or you will get some exposure and/or A/f problems, as there are some methods of autofocusing that use polarized light.
