Strange problem?

I was out birding today and all was going well....

Then early afternoon I went to look at a bird but my bins didn't focus quite right. There seemed to be something strange on the focus for the left eye, on closer inspection I found that the right barrel was fine but that there was no movement at all on the focus mechanism on the left barrel.

Seemed very odd to me, the bins had been round my neck all day and had not suffered any knocks - they just suddenly went. Just wondered if anyone else had ever encounter such a thing... or might know why it would happen.

Presumably this is a roof prism binocular? My guess is that some internal linkage has broken, and hence a visit to the dealer is in order.

Yeah - I happened to be close to the shop where I got them from so took them in whilst I was out today. Alas they had to go back to the manufacturer, so it will be a good few weeks until I get them back.

I was very impressed with the retailer who have loaned me a pair of binoculars until the problem is sorted out.

who was the dealer and what were the bins? I wonder if this is a common flaw?

The bins are Leica Duovids and as far as I know it's not a common problem.

I got them from a shop called Cley-Spy just a few miles from Cley and well worth a visit if you are in the area.
