Muir of Ord

Just moved here this week an looking forward to getting to know the birds of the Black Isle. In my garden this week we have had numerous chaffinches, blackbirds, tits, siskins and swallows. Yesterday I saw little grebe on the lochan at the foot of our garden and the mallards have 6 chicks in tow. Last night (after the roe deer had left) I had a barn owl floating past and today I saw my first swifts over the house (they have been in Inverness for a wee while). I've also had red kite sail over the house checking me out on the day I moved in.

I'll update every now and again.

Hi again ring ouzel

It'll be really great to hear about the wildlife around your area. It's interesting to discover that you've only just got the Swifts with you - I saw the first ones here on the 7th.

Thanks everyone!
Delia - today is the first day I have seen swifts here but thats not to say they haven't been around for a while and have just been hiding quietly somewhere - no actually you're right, its swifts we're talking about. Aptly described by a friend of mine as looking like an avian motorcycle gang. Very cool!

I had a week in Fortrose last week. Had a fantastic time. There were swifts around last week.
Make sure you get along to see the Dolphins by the lighthouse.
I feel very jealous of you living in such a beautiful place.

I've just moved up from the Woking area Paul, I went to a business course in Croydon in March. Croydon is rather busy!! I'm here to set up a nature tour business in the Black Isle area so seeing the dolphins will actually be classed as work!
