Question an osprey being mobbed by a pair of WHAT!?!?!?

Yesterday at the lake i saw an osprey being mobbed by what looked like a pair of ducks!

By the way they were flying straight and the out streached necks and size of a mallard but i could never see a pair of mallards trying to mob something like this!

I am in kingston ontario anyone know what other species of duck would do this? they were the size of a mallard so no way was it a common loon!

I could only assume that the ducks have a nest nearby with chicks. This offten prompts the most unsual scenes with birds in deffence of their young.

I agree with Charlie. I have seen a female duck chase off a dog which must have been near its nest.

I once saw a pair of Avocets rather bizzarely chasing swifts feeding over their nest scrape! Not thats territorial for you!

Last year I witnessed a Mistle thrush chase off a Sparrow hawk which had just killed a pigeon but dropped it in a pond.

An osprey that turned up this year at our reserve was constantly mobbed by families of shelduck - amazing scenes!

I've twice been attacked by mother grouse. It quite chokes me up.
