Question Nocturnal species

Me again, I would need some suggestions about places to be able to hear the following species (if possible, with as more details as possible...):

Elf Owl
Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl
Common Pauraque
Common Poorwill
Lesser Nighthawk

Thanks again!!!

Falcon State Park and Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park. Both of these state parks are located in the Rio Grande Valley area of Texas near the Mexican border. These two areas should provide a lot of relative rarities.

The Falcon guide "Birding Texas", if not already suggested, is excellent although a little dated (1998). It helped me tremendously while there. Very specific directions, a must have for non-locals.

For Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl near the Rio Grande valley your best bet is the El Canelo Ranch in Raymondville [ http://www.elcaneloranch.com/ ]. Contact them by e-mail and see if they still allow individual visitors. They have FPO living in the trees in the garden behind the Inn. The ranch also is very birdy and you probably could get the Pauraque there too but you would have to stay overnight and it is pricey...

I saw Pauraques by driving around the camping areas of Falcon State Park. Never got to see or hear the others.

I forgot to give feedback on this... We finally were able to observe the following species: Elf Owl (Bentsen), Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl (Bentsen, heard only...), Common Pauraque (Laguna Atascosa NWR), and Lesser Nighthawk (Laguna Atascosa NWR). Thank you all for your answers! I'm gonna put soon on my website (www.geocities.com/guenettephotos) some of the pictures taken during this trip (>1000).
