Warbler/Almaty/Kazakhstan
A picture of this warbler was taken yesterday, July 19th in the Tian Shan mountains, Ile-Alatau National Park. Near a mountain stream.
There are some 10 species of warbler that occur in the area but primary candidates the willow warbler and the greenish warbler I believe it could be willlow warbler but i am confused by conspicuous black markings on the cheek. Seems like most warblers do not have such. Please help thank you, sanzhar |

the 'black markings' are ruffled feathers, the wingbar across the greater coverts makes a greenish more likely.

have you got a bigger picture - as there is a surgestion of a wing bar there but for myself I can't tell if its an artifact of the picture or a real marking on the bird

Warbler Pic
Dear Nick, Howard, Parker!
This is amazing. I have just registered and within 10 minutes you guys all replied and helped me much with id'ing this bird. Thanks a lot. This is by far the best welcome to the site i could possibly receive :-). I am posting a bigger pic now to to ease identification. |
