Can anyone ID this insect

Hi everyone,

I photographed this quite big insect (about 2-3 cm length) in Namibia near Fishriver Canyon.

I'm no insect expert, in fact I hate them, but i could give this a shot.

Katydid, perhaps?

That really is amazing camouflage. It appears to be a Pygmy Grasshopper (Tetrigidae).

Yes, I think so. Thank you steve_nova for your link to the website. According to the photos there, it looks really quite similar to a Pamphagidae.

I have got it!

I made a search with Pamphagidae on google and found a link on Family: Pamphagidae (toad grasshoppers) (http://www.museums.org.za/bio/insect...amphagidae.htm) where a Trachypetrella anderssonii is shown.

And this last one looks really close to mine.

Thank you for your help.

Glad you found it. Great camoflauge, so good I'm surprised you saw it in the first place!

I can only confirm it is a Pamphagid; no experience with species though...
