Hi,

Did you realize there are 3 spelling of the species name.

M. madagarensis
M. madagascarensis
M. madagascariensis

What's your favorite :) ?

Cheers,

My favorite is madagarensis. That is what Scopoli originally used:
TETRAO ( madagarensis ) rectricibus nigris, albo-fasciatis.Pectus nigrum, maculis rotundis albis variegatum. Remiges albo-fasciatae. Ibid. p. 169. Tab. 98.

From zoonomen:
Margaroperdix (m.) Reichenbach 1853 Handb.spec.Orn. lfr.3DieVogel p.xxviii dP
• Margaroperdix madagarensis (Scopoli) 1786 Del.Flor.Faun.Insubr. 2 p.93

Sonn. In Voy. Ind. Orient. Called it La Grande Caille de Madagascar.
Gmelin in 1788 and Latham in 1790 changed it to madagascariensis.

Now is Margaroperdix a different gender than Tetrao? No Tetrao is male and so is Margaroperdix.
